One of the first W211 models, this was one of the most handsome midsize Mercedes for some time and even today it remains so. Supplied with the 204hp straight six engine mated to a 5 speed autobox, it is genuinely capable of 40 mpg but should you wish can shift at an indecent rate. The Avantgarde trim level was the most luxurious of the range and sat alongside the Sport and favoured by those wanting a smoother ride. The car was supplied by Rivervale in Brighton to it’s one and only owner, Mr.H who has cherished the car for 16 years. As the owner of a not inconsiderable collection, mileage has been kept exceptionally low but the car has been used frequently, including continental trips. Rivervale have always serviced the car and recently the car has had a major service. An online check of MOT history will reveal a very low count of advisories over the last 13 years indicating a fastidious attitude towards maintenance. We are in possession of all the original booklets and the service book and Mr H. is looking to forward us the original bill of sale.
Mechanical Condition
Unsurprisingly, the mechanical condition of the car is impeccable. The car starts up straight away and settles to a quiet idle. Moving off, the gearbox is smooth and once on the move, it is difficult to believe you are driving a 16-year-old car. There are no knocks or nasty noises and everything feels tight. If requested, the car will accelerate at a surprising rate and it will stop quicker still. It is an absolute joy to drive this car and probably as close as you can get to a new car driving experience in a pre-owned car.
Exterior Condition
Again, the exterior condition of the car is scarcely believable. The lovely Tealite Blue paintwork is 100% original and even the polished alloys have never been refurbished and are adorned with matching Continental tyres. Mr H. was happy to inform us that he never squeezed for gaps and approached speed bumps at a ‘glacial’ speed and nowhere is this care more evident than on the outside of the car. There are no car park dings, no bumper scuffs and absolutely no rust. The worst blemish we could find was a chip at the top of the windscreen, which can’t even be seen from inside the car. To say you would be proud to own this car would be an understatement; we feel the same.
Interior Condition
If you were expecting a catch, sorry but there isn’t one… the interior is of the same outstanding condition as everywhere else. The Nappa leather seats are taut but comfortable and show no wear. The carpets and interior plastics are in similar condition and it goes without saying that everything works. It is difficult not to go overboard with superlatives, so we will just say it is one of the most pleasant interiors we’ve had the privilege of being in.
Summary
This is an exceptional car. To find an example with such low mileage, impeccable service history and that has been cherished this much by its only owner is very, very rare and we believe that it will make a new owner very happy indeed.
