Overview
A great example of an early, UK supplied Mk1 MX5, which has had only 4 owners in 31 years, covering 55,000 miles.   Our usual advert copy would have us listing the equipment that the car was delivered with, but it is a delight to report that this car is devoid of pretty much everything other than electric windows and power steering – other than that, it is as pure a driving experience that can be obtained at this price point.

Supplied new by Mannamead Garage, Plymouth under the registration G436VTT, Mr. S collected his new car in May 1990 it was serviced annually at Plymouth Mazda until the service book was full in 2000.  The car passed to its second owner, Mrs. W in 2003 where it gained its cherished plate to match the owners’ initials. Additional stamps in 2003/04 were manually added at the back of the original book.  The car then ‘emigrated’ to the west of France with Mrs. W from 2005 finally being repatriated to the UK in 2010.  Mrs. W continued to own the car for a further 7 years, then passing to Mr. C-T in early 2018.  Mr. C-T spent significant sums during 2018 to revive the car, before selling it to Mr. C in 2019.  It was intended to be kept by Mr. C for a long time but having recently been posted for work in his native Spain, the realisation set in that it was not practical to ship it to Barcelona hence selling to us.  We are in possession of all the original books in the original holder, as well as numerous invoices for work carried out, historical MOT certificates and French ‘MOT’ certificates.  Since taking custodianship of the car, we have carried out a full service including cambelt, tensioners and water pump and also replaced the brake fluid.  We have also replaced the oxygen sensor, thermostat and fan switch to ensure the car is well prepared for use this year.   The car has a fresh MOT with no advisories so is ready to go.

Mechanical Condition
The car starts on the key and settles quickly to a nice, even idle.  Moving off, the clutch is light and the gearchange has a fantastic mechanical precision about it.  Once on the move, the car feels light, well balanced and responsive and is all the better for not having been modified or fettled.  Given the excellent history and recent mechanical work, we would expect this car to give many more years of enjoyment to come.

Exterior Condition
The paintwork is in good condition, with the silver coachwork holding a strong shine but closer inspection will reveal that this is not factory paintwork – this is most notable on the front nearside wing where micro-blistering has taken hold.   The paintwork is doing its job of protecting the car from the elements and many would be more than happy to continue using it as such, but for the purchaser looking for perfection then a full respray should be budgeted for.   What is remarkable is the structural integrity of the car - initially we thought it had never been welded but we have found a patch that was done on the rear inner arch and we will be doing a small repair further up - that said, the rest of the underside is completely original having never been welded and not needing it either.  The hood is free from blemishes or damage, with the rear plastic window in excellent condition – the factory tonneau cover is supplied.  The tyres are all Avons, with 5mm or more of remaining tread and the lovely daisy wheels are in very good condition as seen from the photos.  This is a very presentable car that can be used as is, or if desired could be taken to the next level with paintwork.

Interior Condition
The interior has fared very well in the last 31 years with the cloth seats still looking well and only showing slight wear on the drivers bolster.  There really isn’t much to go wrong in here, but what is there works without exception and plastics are all in good condition.

Summary
The Mk1 market has seen a definite firming up recently – whilst these were supplied in some volume, it is getting very difficult to find solid cars of any age, never mind an early 1990 UK supplied car with such low mileage and good provenance.   We are more than happy to provide additional information on request, please don’t hesitate to contact us if required.
